Premiering in 1982 this original coming-of-age musical revolves around the Catholic education of 8 children growing up in Chicago. An affectionate, hilarious look at First Confessions, puppy love, patron saints, sex education and the importance of not wearing shiny shoes. Based on the 1975 novel by John Powers, adapted by John Powers with music and lyrics by James Quinn and Alaric Jans.

EDDIE RYAN: (20s-30s) An all-around nice guy. Awkward and naïve. Desperately in love with Becky Bakowski. Needs to have a wonderful rapport with the audience.

FELIX LINDOR: (20s-30s) The nerd. Felix thinks he knows everything there is to know about women and takes great pride in confessing his long list of sins.

LOUIE SCHLANG: (20s-30s) The class clown. Hyperactive. Eats Crayons. Probably the worst student in class next to Eddie. Louie is rarely quiet. He has a crush on Mary.

MIKE DEPKI: (20s-30s) The jock. Eddie’s best friend. Mike is constantly spouting wisdom he learned from his older brother.

FATHER O’REILLY: (40s +) Head of the parish and advisor. He can be tough at times, but he truly cares.

BECKY BAKOWSKI: (20s-30s) The love of Eddie’s life. Teased for being overweight, Becky endures and grows into a beautiful, smart young woman who wrestles with her love for Eddie and her desire to enter the convent.

MARY KENNY: (20s-30s) Teacher’s pet. Mary is the smartest girl in class, never misses Mass and never sins.

NANCY RALANSKY: (20s-30s) The bombshell. All the guys love Nancy and she knows it.

VIRGINIA LEAR: (20s-30s) The tomboy. Virginia always tries to hang with the guys and could take on any one of them.

SISTER LEE: (40s +) The nun that strikes terror into the hearts of the students. She is 4’5” and nobody knows exactly how old she is. Stern and gruff with a heart of gold.

SISTER HELEN: (40s +) Sweet and loving. The kids adore her.

SISTER MONICA MARIE/SECRETARY: (40s +) Fun-loving sister of the group. Also plays Sister Lee’s Secretary.
